A World of Food > Chicken
It's always been there but the chicken welfare issue has burst out as a real hot topic over the last few weeks, prompted by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's TV programme, and responded to by the nation's retailers with press advertising to reassure a fretful nation. But what now? Have our buying and consumption habits changed? Is chicken welfare something to agonise over - or does availability and price matter nore? At least one retailer has stated that after a big swing to 'free range', sales of conventional chicken have already returned to normal. But why is this? Some of us have been trying to buy free range but been faced with empty shelves. Is the return to normal therefore apathy, or just a lack of availability of what consumers now prefer? What's your take on this?
